M E T H O D:

♥ Step One ♥
Preheat the oven to 180 °c.

♥ Step Two ♥

Prep yourself - Tie back hair, remove nail polish, roll up sleeves, put on an apron, wash hands and cover any cuts with plasters.

♥ Step Three ♥
Prep the Baking Tray - measure correct amount of parchment paper and place onto the baking tray.

♥ Step Four ♥
Weigh 125g of Plain Flour.

Transfer the measured flour into a Small Bowl.

♥ Step Five ♥
Weigh 62g of Margarine/Butter.

Transfer the measured Margarine into a Small Bowl.

♥ Step Six ♥
Measure 6-10 Dessert Spoons into a Measuring Jug.

♥ Step Seven ♥
Place the sieve on top of the Large Mixing Bowl.
Using a spoon, transfer the flour from the Small Bowl into the sieve.
Gradually, sieve the flour into the Large Mixing Bowl.

♥ Step Eight ♥
Using a butter knife, cut the margarine in the Small Bowl into small cubes.
Cutting the margarine into small cubes will make it a lot easier for you when rubbing the margarine into the flour.

♥ Step Nine ♥
Transfer the cubed margarine into the Large Mixing Bowl.
Coat the margaine in the flour - use your knife to cover the margarine with flour.

♥ Step Ten ♥
Using your finger tips, rub the margarine into the flour.
Rub the margarine into the flour until it looks like bread crumbs.

For anyone who does Home Economics in school, this tip is essential. When doing exams, the examiner will look to check that your palms have no flour on them. It is important to ensure that you only use your fingertips when rubbing in the margarine.

♥ Step Eleven ♥
Use a knife to create a hole in the centre of the flour and margarine mixture.

♥ Step Twelve ♥
Using a dessert spoon, slowly add the milk.
I began with adding 4 dessert spoons of milk and then mixed with a knife.
I started mixing from the centre and worked my way out to the edges.
If any more milk has to be added, add them 1 dessert spoon at a time.
After each addition of milk, mix with the knife.
Adding one spoon at a time, will ensure your dough does not become too wet.

♥ Step Thirteen ♥
Use your hands to bring the mixture together to make a dough.
Ensure you leave the bowl clean.

♥ Step Fourteen ♥
Lightly flour your work surface.
Flouring your work surface will ensure your dough does not stick.
Also, flour your hands.
Place dough onto the floured work surface.

♥ Step Fifteen ♥
Knead the dough.
To knead the dough you will use your two hands.
If you are right handed, you will use your left hand to turn the dough anti-clockwise.
If you are left handed, use your right hand to turn the dough clock-wise.
With your other hand, fold the dough from the outside of the dough into the centre.
Then turn anti-clockwise.
A. Fold dough from outside into the centre.
B. Turn dough. (anti-clockwise/clockwise depending on hand you write with).
C. Fold dough from outside into the centre.
D. Turn dough. (anti-clockwise/clockwise depending on hand you write with).
Continue this process.

♥ Step Sixteen ♥
Turn dough over onto flat side.

♥ Step Seventeen ♥
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough evenly into a circle.
Roll the dough until it is about 0.5cm in depth.

♥ Step Eighteen ♥
Cut out Heart shapes into your dough.
You can use either a Heart-Shaped Cutter or a Butter Knife.
I used a butter knife.
I used the first heart as a template for the rest of the hearts - I laid the heart on top of the dough and traced the edge with the knife.
I placed the hearts onto the oven tray.

♥ Step Nineteen ♥
When you have the heart shapes cut out, begin placing your filling in the middle of the hearts on the oven tray.
I used roughly 1/2 a teaspoon of nutella & jam.

♥ Step Twenty ♥
Crack an egg into a cup and whisk with a fork.

♥ Step Twenty-One ♥
Wet the edges of the heart with the egg using an Egg Brush.
Place a spare heart on top of the heart on the oven tray.
Press the edges together.
Using a fork, push the edges together.
Prick the centre of the hearts also.
Glaze the heart pastry with the egg.

♥ Step Twenty-Two ♥
Place the oven tray into the oven.
Allow the heart pies to cook for 12-20 mins.

♥ Step Twenty-Three ♥
I removed the heart pies after 15 mins.
They turned a golden brown.

♥ Step Twenty-Four ♥
As a garnish, I used Icing Sugar.
I placed the heart pies onto a plate.
I placed a teaspoon of icing sugar into a sieve and lightly coated the pies.

♥ ♥ The Finished Product!! ♥ ♥
