The first book I purchased on my Kindle was Gone Girl!
Gone Girl was written by Gillian Flynn.
The book was first published on January 1st, 2012.
A synopsis of the book from Good Reads:
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

My Review:
The book is pretty long but it is an easy read. The language used is accessible and the images are easily pictured.
The Plot:
The majority of the story occurs in Missouri, United States. Nick is the husband and Amy is the wife. The couple have a pet cat and no kids.
Both Nick and Amy lose their jobs. Nick decides that they will move back to his home-town, Missouri, to care for his mother who is suffering from cancer. Nick's dad is suffering from Alzheimer's.
Nick and Amy are not happy in their relationship. Neither communicate with each other. There is an obvious tension between the pair.
The story begins in the present day with Nick's perspective. The book jumps from Nick's perspective and Amy's perspective. Amy's perspective dwells on their relationship in the past, in the form of Diary Entries. It can be quite confusing jumping from one chapter to another with the time difference - just take heed of the chapter titles.
It's Nick's and Amy's 5 year wedding anniversary and Nick heads to "The Bar" - a bar that Nick and his sister owns. Nick receives a phone call from his neighbour that his front door is open and his cat is outside. When Nick arrives home, he realises that his wife is no where to be found. The police arrive and all the evidence points to Nick.
My Thoughts:
Throughout the whole book, you find yourself trying to figure out who actually took Amy. Towards the middle of the book, there is a climax. Everything I thought that happened, turns out the opposite.
This book is a psychological-thriller and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat! At the end of each chapter, Gillian Flynn leaves a sentence that will have you wondering what is going to happen next.
Gillian's writing style is very easy to comprehend and very witty. The novel is extremely thrilling and involves so many twist sand turns.
I found the ending very disappointing. It ended on a very un-easy note. It was not what I expected but honestly, this whole novel was completely opposite to what I had expected!!
I really enjoyed this novel! Definitely one to add to your Book Collection!
If you enjoy novels with unsettling plots, this one is for you!
