My Sister's Skincare Routine | Teenager Edition

Hello Lovelies! Welcome back to my blog! :)

Over the past few months, I have really taken an interest in skincare. Skincare was definitely an area within the beauty community that I was never very fond of. I used to do the very basics; remove my makeup with makeup wipes (a sin in the beauty world I know!) and sometimes I even slept with my makeup on (eeeeekkk!). After attending training for Lancome and Clarins with work, my interest with skincare intensified.

My sister Róisín is 15 years old. Being a 15 year old is tough especially with the stress of the upcoming junior cert, friends and life in general. All these factors can contribute to the condition of your skin. This year for Christmas, I wanted to really push the importance of a good skincare routine for Róisín. Keeping your skin clean and hydrated is half the battle to clear skin. Of course, your diet and lifestyle can play an effect on your skins condition but I hoped that if I gave Róisín some skincare goodies, she might grow a passion for skincare like I did.

Working in a Pharmacy on a Beauty Counter, I have learnt first hand that changing a person's skincare routine needs to be completed in small steps. Although, there are a few people that can completely change their routine and excel with it, others prefer to slowly add and remove products from their routine. Firstly, I think this is down to the concept of change. I can speak from personal experience, I am a creature of habit, anything out of habit and I feel like I am thrown into the deep end. I need to make small baby steps with change to make sure that I am 100% comfortable. Secondly, I think it is all down to cost. People want to ensure that they are not wasting their money on products they won't use and won't get satisfaction from. This is completely understandable, I wouldn't want to buy a complete skincare routine if it was overwhelming and I never used it. For this Christmas, I decided to buy Róisín some skincare essentials that will begin her passion for skincare. Róisín isn't very interested in makeup so I thought skincare would be a great section for her to use daily.

Less of the babble and I will start with Róisín's skincare routine! :P

Róisín is a typical teenager; blackheads on her nose and hormonal spots. So far, all the girls in our house have been blessed with generally good skin. Róisín has normal to combination skin - oily t-zone and dry areas on your face. If Róisín gets any spots, they usually appear on her forehead or her chin. I think the spots on her forehead are from her fringe being worn down all the time.

With Róisín only being a teenager and only beginning with skincare, I wanted to start her skincare collection with the basics. I tried to pick up products that were for sensitive skin, just in case she had sensitive skin.

Before we begin with Róisín's morning and night routine, I wanted to show Róisín's skincare collection.

In Róisín's skincare there is:
-Nivea Sensitive Day Cream (SPF 15)
-Nivea Sensitive Night Cream
-Cien Gentle Facial Wash
-St. Ives Facial Exfoliator
-L'Oreal Clay Mask - Detoxify
-Pretty Nose Pore Strips
-Electronic Facial Cleansing Brush (Imitation of Clarisonic)

As you can see, it's very basic and simple but it is a starting point for her. I hope to add a toner, hydrating eye cream and other face masks in the future.

Remember, it's suggested that you start using an eye cream as soon as you begin to wear eye makeup. Although Róisín doesn't wear makeup frequently, a hydrating eye cream will be perfect for her and will ensure that no dry skin occurs around her eye area.

Róisín is a creature of habit and once she gets into the habit of something, she'll stick to it.

One item I gifted Róisín this year for Christmas was an electronic facial cleansing brush. It's a dupe for the Clarisonic and way more affordable. I loved the concept of the Clarisonic (you can imagine I was a very happy girl when I received one from Santa!), it's quick (only takes one minute to cleanse your whole face), it removes dirt that a manual cleanse can't and it's very user-friendly. Because Róisín was only beginning to dive into the sea of skincare, I wanted to pick up something cheap and cheerful for her to try out.

I was really happy with how Róisín fell in love with this item. If you watched my Christmas vlog, you would've seen Róisín use it immediately. She uses it twice daily; morning and night. She applies the Cien Gentle Facial Wash to the brush head and cleanses her face.

If you are looking to purchase the Clarisonic, buy an inexpensive one first. It will allow you to try the concept of an electronic facial brush and see if you enjoy it. I picked this one up from Ebay, type in 'facial brush' and thousands will appear!

1. Cleansing

-Róisín wets her face with warm water.
-She wets the head of the facial brush.
-She applies some of the Cien Gentle Facial Wash to the facial brush.
-She cleanses her face with the electronic brush. Starting with her forehead (20 seconds), cheeks (10 seconds each) and nose/t-zone (20 seconds). 1 minute cleansing total.
-She then rinses her face with warm water and cleans the facial brush.

2. Exfoliating

-Róisín will exfoliate her face twice a week to remove any dry skin.
-After cleansing her face, she will leave it damp and exfoliate her face with the St. Ives Sensitive Facial Exfoliator.
-Once she has exfoliated her face, she washes her face and pats it dry with a towel.

3. Moisturising

-Róisín's final step in her morning skincare routine is moisturiser.
-Róisín's current moisturiser is the Nivea Sensitive Day Cream with SPF 15. Her previous moisturiser was the Simple Light Moisturiser. Róisín prefers the Nivea cream as it feels thicker and more hydrating. The Nivea moisturiser has SPF too which is always a bonus!

1. Cleansing

-Róisín repeats the exact same cleansing steps as this morning.

2. Face Mask

-Similarly to exfoliating, Róisín likes to apply a face mask twice a week.
-Her favourite one at the moment is the L'Oreal Pure Clay Detox Face Mask.
-While her face is still damp from cleansing, Róisín applies the face mask with a foundation brush all over her face avoiding her eyes.
-She allows the face mask to dry - usually around 20 minutes.
-Once the face mask has dried, Róisín removes it with a hot face cloth.
-Róisín pats her face dry with a towel.

The L'Oreal Pure Clay Detox Face Mask is honestly amazing! It's so affordable (around 7/8 euros) and works wonders. When I began using this, after my first or second try, some spots appeared. This is normal, people call this 'purging'. Róisín's skin 'purged' too. The detoxify mask pulls up any spots/imperfections, if you keep on top of this and apply your face mask twice a week, less spots will appear. I find my skin can become quite dry/red after using this, a rich hydrating moisturiser is ideal to apply after.

Twice a week, Róisín likes to use Nose Pore Strips. She usually applies these after she has cleansed and leaves her nose damp. She applies the nose pore strips and allows these to dry (usually 20 mins). She removes the nose pore strips and will grab some of her exfoliator and focus this just on her nose area.

3. Moisturing

At night time, Róisin applies the Nivea Sensitive Night Cream. It's richer than the day cream and it also doesn't contain the SPF. This moisturiser is lovely, it's very comforting to dry/tight skin especially after cleansing with a facial brush and applying a detoxifying face mask.

So that's it! It's quite simple and straight-forward at the moment. I didn't want to shock Róisín with an excessive amount of skincare at first. Róisín has fallen in love with taking care of her skin. I'm going to slowly add products and change products up for her.

I hope you enjoyed today's blogpost. I really enjoyed doing this with Róisín. If you enjoyed reading about different skincare products, I recently wrote a post about my favourite skincare products, click here to read it!

Chicken Tikka Masala | Slimming World Friendly

Hello Lovelies! :) Welcome back to Sense Of Beauty! So with it being the beginning of 2017, many of us have decided to improve our diet. Diets can be a massive lifestyle change, especially after the binge of the Christmas and New Years.

Takeaways are always a fab treat at the weekend after a long week, but what about on a Wednesday when you're craving an indian? I've been trying to cook recipes I have never tried before and I came across this one. Don't worry, for anyone doing Slimming World, this is completely syn free! You also have the option to make this Tikka Masala with a side of rice (I personally prefer brown rice), but instead I decided to choose some speedy veg!
If you would like to see how to create this gorgeous Fakeaway, make sure to continue reading! :)

Ingredients:

-Low Calorie Cooking Spray (I used Frylight Olive Oil)
-1 Onion
-1 Red Pepper
-3 Garlic Cloves
-30g Root Ginger
-1 Chili
-2x Chicken Fillets
-1 Vegetable/Chicken Stock Cube (dissolved in 500ml Boiling Water)
-150g Passata
-1 Tablespoon of Tomato Puree
-1/2 Teaspoon of Hot Chilli Powder (Add as much/little as you desire)
-2 Teaspoons of Ground Coriander
-1 Teaspoon of Ground Cumin
-1 Teaspoon of Paprika
-3 Teaspoons of Medium Tikka Curry Powder
-2 Teaspoons of Medium Curry Powder
-2 Teaspoons of Garlic Granules
-1/2 Teaspoon of Tumeric
-100g Fat Free Yogurt
-Salt & Pepper
-Rice/Veg (I used broccoli and carrots instead of rice)

Spices can be added to your own desire. I add spices very happily and then I realise I've put about 5 teaspoons of the hot chilli powder and I burn my mouth off haha!

Method:

1. Prepare your vegetables and chicken.
    -Chop onion
    -De-seed and slice pepper
    -Peel and grate ginger
    -Finely chop garlic
    -De-seed and chop chilli
    -Peel and chop carrots
    -Chop chicken into pieces

2. Place carrots & broccoli/rice into a pot and boil.

3. Spray pan with Frylight and heat. Add pepper, onion, garlic, ginger and chilli to the pan and cook for 8-10 minutes.

4. Add chicken to the pan and cook for another 8-10 mintues or until the chicken is cooked through.

5. Add 500ml boiling water with stock cube to the pan. Add spices too.

6. Add Passata and tomato puree to the pan. Allow to simmer for another 8-10 minutes.

7. Remove pan from heat and stir in the yogurt.

8. Strain vegetables/rice, serve and enjoy!! :)

And that's it! I really hope you enjoy this recipe if you give it a go!
Anyone doing Slimming World, it is completely free and it has all your speedy veg needed! I hope to post more recipes in the near future so make sure to keep an eye out for those! :)

Best Of Beauty 2016

Hello Lovelies! Welcome back to Sense Of Beauty! Today's blogpost will be all about my beauty favourites from 2016! Most of these, if not all of these have definitely been featured on my blog before.

Keep reading to see my favourite beauty products from 2016! :)

Primer

By far, the Nivea Men Post Shave Balm Sensitive has been the most sought after primer in 2016. The high glycerine content in the post shave balm leaves a tacky finish which will make your make-up last longer. I usually apply a 20c size amount to my fingertips and rub into my face until I feel it become tacky. Another bonus? It smells amazing!!

Foundation

My absolute favourite foundation of 2016 has got to be the Clarins Everlasting Foundation. It retails at 35 euro and is definitely worth every penny! I like to wear it both day time and night time. When I'm not wearing tan, I like to wear the shade 103 Ivory - I'm SUPER pale haha! When I have tan on I like to wear the shade 110 Honey. It gives amazing coverage and is very long lasting.

Concealer

This is my second tube of this concealer. It's the Lancome Effacernes Longue Tenue Concealer in 015. Perfect for everyday and I like using it when I'm going out it's perfect at giving a bright undereye highlight. It's very easy to blend and is very long lasting. The coverage is amazing too!

Under Eye Setting Powder

The Vichy Dermablend is an amazing loose powder for under your eyes. You can use it to bake or just to lightly set your under eye concealer. It doesn't flash back in photographs and it doesn't cake when you apply it. I've heard that it is meant to be very popular with brides too for their wedding makeup.

Face Powder

The Rimmel London Stay Matte is an amazing face powder to apply over your liquid foundation. It's a super affordable dupe for the MAC Mineralised Skin Finish. I have this in the shade Translucent so I can wear it on my paler days or when I have tan on. On days where I'm not wearing foundation, I like to apply this powder all over my face for a light coverage.
Liquid Bronzer

Benefit's Dew the hoola is another great product that I loved in 2016. You can use it on pale skin or tanned skin. I fell in love with this liquid bronzer during the summer when I didn't want to apply a foundation - I just applied some concealer under my eyes and applied this to the areas where you would usually bronze and it was lovely! Super easy to blend and very easy to use. Dew The Hoola makes an exceptional platform for powder bronzer and contour.

Bronzer

Another core product from Benefit that I can't live without! Benefit's Hoola bronzer is a cool toned bronzer which is ideal for bronzing and contouring. Very easy to blend and it is long lasting. Definitely an essential in anyone's makeup bag. It's also a multi-purpose product, you can use this as an eyeshadow.

Contour

The NYX HD Blush in Taupe is my favourite product to contour with. It is extremely cool-toned which is perfect for contouring. This layered on top of the hoola bronzer makes the perfect couple. It's super affordable too! This is my second one of these and I will definitely re-purchase when I have finished this one.

Blush

One of my favourite ranges in Benefit are their cheek products. Not only do I love their bronzer, but their blushes are just as amazing! My favourite one from their collection of blushes is Coralista. Perfect for anyone with a lighter skin tone as the coral tone is very complimentary. It has a gorgeous gold hew to it which fits perfectly with your highlighter.

Highlight

I like to call this my 'Mermaid Highlighter'. This is my absolute favourite highlighter, it's super pigmented - NASA can literally see your poppin' cheek bones from space!

Brow Pomade

Brow Pomades can give you precise and defined brows and this product does exactly that. I have it in the shade 02 Chocolate and I've had this for over a year, it's still going strong! I use this with a Real Technique Angled Brush and the both of them together are the dream team. It's definitely a dupe for the ABH Dip Brow Pomade and it's a fraction of the price!

Brow Gel

The Benefit Ready, Set Brow is the ultimate brow gel. It is literally like super glue for your brows, they do not budge when this is applied. If you have unruly brows, this is your magic potion in a bottle to keep them in place. It's clear so it can be universally used.

Eyeshadow Primer

The Essence I <3 Stage Eyeshadow Base is an amazing base, and to make things better? It's only a couple of euro! It has a cream colour to it which works perfectly at concealing any discolouration and veins on your eyelids. I usually like to apply a skin-coloured eyeshadow on top of this to remove the tacky feeling of it.

Eyeshadow

Stila's kitten eyeshadow is a necessity in your makeup bag. It's a gorgeous champagne gold and compliments all skin tones. I enjoy using this as a highlighter on my face too! I am obsessed with this eyeshadow! Definitely one of my favourite purchases of 2016!

Eyeshadow Palette

Warm matte eyeshadows are definitely the way to my heart! I have used and abused this palette all year long and I've only hit pan on one of the eyeshadows! It has a great selection of light eyeshadows and dark eyeshadows which can be used for both day and night. The palette came with a double sided brush but I have misplaced mine.

Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid Eyeliner can definitely sense your fear but when you use this, you have nothing to fear. It's so easy and quick to use, I recommend this for any beginners/pros with liquid eyeliner. It has 3 different positions that you can use to apply the eyeliner. It's super fast drying too so it doesn't transfer to your lid if you open your eyes too soon.

Mascara Primer

This primer for your eyelashes can work wonders! It's tinted brown which means that you can wear it by itself if you fancy a more natural look. It's super flexible technology allows you to apply mascara over top and it doesn't clump. It works well with all lashes; short, long, curly and straight. It's also waterproof too!

Mascara

Lancome has won it's way to my heart with this mascara. It volumises and lengthens - the dream mascara! It's perfect for those with longer lashes just because it can clump when applied to shorter lashes. Super impressed with this! This is my second tube of this too!

Lip Oils

Not only does Clarins excel in body oils, they also excel in lip oils. These babies are necessities in every girls handbag. They come in 3 shades; Honey, Raspberry and Red Berry. My favourites are the Honey and Red Berry. Super hydrating for your lips and are very long lasting, they don't disappear off your lips.

Lip Liner

I am not exaggerating when I say I have about 6 of these floating around in my handbag, makeup bag and makeup collection. This is my absolute favourite lipliner. It's available from Penneys, part of their PS Love makeup collection and to make it even sweeter, it only costs 1.50!

Liquid Lipstick

Stila Liquid Lipsticks are my favourite lip products ever! My favourite shade is Patina. It's a gorgeous soft berry colour which can be worn on any skin tone and with most makeup looks. They are ultra matte and are very long lasting. I would suggest you apply some Carmex before you apply these though, they are unbelievably matte with no moisture. I have purchased two of these and I have made my mum fall in love with this too!

Setting Spray

The ultimate setting spray of 2016 has to be Clarins Fix' Makeup Setting Spray. It has a faint scent of roses, I don't mind this but others might not enjoy it. It's very refreshing and does an exceptional job at making your makeup last longer. I enjoy using this to 'foil' my eyeshadows too; especially Kitten by Stila.

So, that's the end of my 2016 Beauty Favourites! I really hope you enjoyed this and if you try any of these products, I hope you're as satisfied as I am with them.
